This theme of 2021 is “Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer” to combat low awareness rates worldwide. The day aims to raise awareness with a special focus on low to middle-income areas and promote accurate blood pressure measurement methods.


What could be the reason for high blood pressure?


Hypertension can be genetic or can be caused due to an unhealthy lifestyle.

  • Familial – A family history of hypertension can be the reason for high blood pressure.
  • Ageing: With age, the risk of high blood pressure increases; older people are more prone to high blood pressure than young as walls of vessels starts thickening
  • Unhealthy Lifestyle –
    If one consumes Extra salt and inadequate potassium in the diet, it can cause more fluid to be retained in the body. It then directly increases blood pressure. Smoking and alcohol consumption, High levels of stress, lack of exercise can also lead to the condition.
