Planet vs Plastic: Let’s aim to reduce the production and usage of plastic on Earth Day 2024

Earth Day is an annual celebration to demonstrate support for protection of Mother Earth. It is a day to raise awareness about environmental issues of our planet and to promote sustainability. As Earth Day 2024 has arrived, it is time to reflect on the adversities of Environmental degradation.

Theme of Earth Day 2024

The theme of Earth Day 2024 is “Planet vs Plastic”.  The theme of “Planet vs Plastic” stands as a reminder of the ongoing battle between environmental preservation and the continuous presence of plastic pollution. Plastic, once hailed as a revolutionary miracle material, has now become the Bane of human existance. It is clogging our oceans, choking our wildlife and haunting our landscapes.

The Plastic Pollution

Plastic pollution poses a grave threat to the delicate balance of our planet’s ecosystems. From single-use plastics clogging our waterways to microplastics disturbing our food chain, the impact of Plastic pollution is far- reaching and devastating. The aquatic life has to suffer as they ingest or get entangled in plastic debris. The terrestrial ecosystems also face contamination. The animals and birds suffer from severe diseases as they consume plastics and microplastics.  Moreover, plastic pollution has exaggerated climate change as harmful greenhouse gases are released during production and disposal.

Imagine this, there is a world ruled by Plastic. The soil is covered by plastic bags that refuse to decompose, the air is filled with nanoparticles of plastics, Microplastics have entered the cells of our body, and the beaches are ruined with plastic filth. It’s not mere imagination, this is reality and time to take action is now
