June 14th is recognized as World Blood Donor Day all around the world. It is a day to celebrate the deeds of unsung heroes, spread the message of humanity, and motivate society towards philanthropic acts like blood donation. June 14th encompasses all of these aspects.
World Blood Donor Day 2023:
The theme for this year’s World Blood Donor Day is ‘Give blood, give plasma, share life, share often.’ Algeria is hosting the global event of the day through its national blood transfusion services.
The World Health Organization (WHO) outlines the following objectives:
- Expressing gratitude to every donor and promoting more people to become blood donors.
- Encouraging healthy donors to donate as soon as possible and on a regular basis.
- Achieving universal access to safe blood products for everyone.
- Strengthening and sustaining national blood programs.
Dera Sacha Sauda – a record-setter in the field of blood donation:
Since 1990, Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan has initiated several humanitarian and social welfare works. One of them is the unique ‘TRUE BLOOD PUMP’ Campaign, which promotes regular blood donation among healthy disciples.
“Donate blood so that no life is lost due to its scarcity. It fills the donor with vitality. Donating blood never makes you weak; rather, it is a treatment in itself for many ailments. Blood donation is the biggest act of charity and service. Be the savior of mankind by pursuing this cause.”
~ Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan
Dera Sacha Sauda devotees have set a world record not just once or twice, but three times in the Guinness World Book of Records, breaking their own record each time. They achieved this feat in 2003, 2004, and finally in 2010 by donating more than 47,000 units of blood in a single day. Additionally, the average annual donation from Dera Sacha Sauda amounts to a remarkable 35,000 units.
Blood donation – a cure for various ailments:
Due to the alarming increase in blood-related diseases like Thalassemia and dengue, coupled with a rise in traumatic roadside accidents, a unit of blood is required every 2 seconds. Death resulting from blood scarcity is a tragedy that can be prevented with the little effort of a common man. Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan urges everyone to step up and leave their mark in this field.
Occasional celebration through blood donation:
Dera Sacha Sauda devotees have learned an important fact: if God gives us a moment of happiness, we can show gratitude by bringing happiness to the Lord’s creatures. Therefore, Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan advocates different ways of expressing gratitude, with blood donation being a significant method. As Saint Dr. MSG says,
‘खूनदान महादान है।’ (Blood donation is a great donation.)
Hence, Dera Sacha Sauda devotees have made it a habit to donate blood on various occasions worthy of celebration, such as birthdays, anniversaries, and other life achievements.
The philanthropic act of blood donation brings benefits to the donor:
Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan teaches that blood donation is itself a healer and a great cure for various ailments. In addition to receiving blessings from the Almighty and the recipient, a donor’s blood cells are reinforced, providing cellular-level energy.
This significant gift works as icing on the cake in this era of Kalyug
(the age of vice). Therefore, one should never hesitate when such an opportunity arises.
The vast blood bank of Dera Sacha Sauda:
The eminent blood bank, founded by Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan, covers a vast area of Shah Satnam Ji Speciality Hospital in Sirsa. On every occasion at Dera Sacha Sauda, a massive blood donation camp is organized, including the Dera premises, due to the large number of donors.
The blood bank has a well-organized system for separating and storing blood products in a safe and hygienic manner. It covers all the necessary routine tests and storage units.
Dera Sacha Sauda – ahead in spreading the message as well:
The guidance of Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan has been an influential factor in encouraging Dera Sacha Sauda devotees to donate blood frequently and enthusiastically. Therefore, volunteers have made it a part of their lives to spread these humane messages across the world.
Through online platforms, offline hoverboards, and pamphlets, no means have been spared in spreading the message far and wide.
This is one of the beautiful documentaries created by the Dera volunteers:

Not only does it raise awareness about the topic, but it has also helped increase the number of volunteers over the years.
Because everyone can spread the message if everyone is not fortunate enough to be a part of it.
