World sight day: theme and significance
World sight day is observed every year on 14th of October. The theme for this year is ‘Love your eyes’. Many people suffer from eye related ailments and many just ignore them till they become bigger issues beyond curable level. Many a times, disease at initial level can be treated and reversed back completely but at advanced stage, some permanent damage occurs. So, awareness regarding sight and to ‘love your eyes’ is important.
This day holds importance as it brings attention to blindness and visual impairment. Many times, a person’s vision can be improved and sometimes, to 6/6. So, giving importance to sight is important.
What is postmortem eye donation?
To donate eyes is something anyone can do after death. You just need to fill form with hospital where you give consent to donate your eyes after your death. If someone has not filled the form, their family members can still donate the eyes by their will. The eyes need to be taken within 6 hours of death. The cornea is the part which is used. There are many people who are blind because of corneal disease and they can get their vision back via corneal transplantation.

The passion to serve and heal knows no limit
This is not all about this place to serve the humanity by giving them their sight back, instead with Guruji’s guidance, annual eye camp is organized at Dera Sacha Sauda. This camp is organized in December every year where thousands of patients visit the OPD in every camp and hundreds of surgeries are carried out. Registration, consultations, medicines, spectacles, etc. are provided free of cost. Accommodation to indoor patients along with food is provided free by the Ashram and needy patients are operated upon by specialist doctors free of cost.

The one who inspired millions for postmortem eye donation
Millions of people are influenced and lakhs have already filled the written pledge form to donate their eyes posthumously and they all have single source of inspiration. It’s none other than Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan. With Revered Guruji’s guidance, a total of 135 welfare works are being carried out by the Dera Sacha Sauda volunteers worldwide.
